Research highlights the link between the body and psychological symptoms including: tension, difficult connecting with others, low mood, apathy and IBS.
The twelve-week Emotional Regulation Skills group, uses experiments and newly taught skills to recruit the body as both a source of information and as an avenue for change and growth.
The goal of the group is to increase personal awareness of the body as a “communicator,” enhance ability to regulate emotional and physical states, increase communicativeness, and decrease symptoms.
Through increased body awareness and mindfulness female-identified group members learn to identify automatic triggered responses, to regulate impulsive and self-destructive behavior, and to modulate the highs and lows to be better able to tolerate emotions and body experience.
With curiosity and lightheartedness, each group will cover a new topic or skill related to emotional regulation including: Physical Arousal, Grounding, Boundaries, Distress Tolerance, and Mindfulness. Skills will then be practiced within the group and members will explore how the new skill is applicable in their daily lives.
