Evidence Based Treatment
Evidence Based Treatment (EBT) is defined as “Adherence to psychological approaches and techniques that are based on scientific evidence.” The vast majority of EBT’s have significantly sized clinical trials to substantiate and support their findings. The studies carefully compare the effects of EBT’s vs. other types of psychologcial treatments. These studies have found that EBT’s can reduce symptoms significantly following the end of therapy.
When it comes to EBTs, specifically targeted to the treatment of psychological symptoms, one of the most frequently chosen forms of treatment is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Cognitive Behaviroal Therapy has an excellent record in clinical trials consistently being effective in treating anxiety, depression, and numerous other psychological issues. CBT has been shown to be effective for a wide range of symptoms.
CBT is effectively a mixture of cognitive and behavioural therapy. It focuses on the individual thoughts and beliefs that an individual has learned from childhood and then then targets the relationship between those beliefs and how we subsequently deal with the problems that life throws our way. Because emotions, thoughts, and behaviours are all linked, CBT approaches allow for therapists to intervene at different points in the cycle.
CBT is a very collaborative approach and together we will identify and understand your various problems. CBT works by collaboratively setting goals and challenges and is therefore a very hands on practical approach to solving your problems. We work with you to break down your concerns and worries into bite sized problems and then tackle those on an individual basis. Once the patient understands the strategies and methods and learns how to use them, they have a solution that can last a lifetime.
